CSU's Risk Management Planning

CSU is constantly assessing programs and policies to mitigate the risks for students while abroad. Here are some of the steps, which CSU takes to ensure that students have the safest experience possible:

Require all CSU undergraduates & graduates to register their travels with the CSU Office of International Programs & the U.S. Dept. of State's Smart Traveler's Enrollment Program (STEP)

Monitor current events through listservs provided by

  • U.S. Department of State's Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC)
  • U.S. Department of State's Travel Warning and Advisory updates
  • Center for Disease Control
  • U. S. Geological Survey for earthquakes and related natural disasters

Provide and/or require insurance for all CSU students

Provide travel consultations and continued support through the CSU Health Network

Require a logistical review for programs to ensure thoughtful consideration of risk mitigation and emergency planning

Affiliate only with reputable service providers, who can provide insurance and emergency plans

Create a multi-tiered emergency response plan

Provide safety resources for faculty leading groups abroad

Provide on-site risk assessment for top student destinations
