Unaffiliated Third-Party Study Abroad Programs
Direct Enrollment Abroad &
Work, Volunteer and Intern Abroad Options
There are many study abroad organizations that are unaffiliated with CSU. Before applying to an unaffiliated organization or directly to a university abroad, consult with a CSU Study Abroad advisor to inquire about past student experiences and to verify the program's accreditation so credits will be transferable to CSU and financial aid may be used to pay for the study abroad program.
Some useful search engines for finding unaffiliated third-party program options are:
Unaffiliated Third-Party Programs
Unaffiliated Third-Party Programs are organized by a university or study abroad organization that does not have an agreement with Colorado State University. Many of these are reputable programs with a long history of receiving students from CSU.
Before applying to an unaffiliated program, research the program carefully and consult with a CSU Study Abroad advisor to make sure that the program is authorized for transfer credit at CSU. CSU Study Abroad maintains a list of authorized programs based on past student participation. Additionally, there may be a student evaluation available for the program in the International Resource Center in Laurel Hall. Students are encouraged to contact past participants about their experiences to aid in the program selection process.
All Unaffiliated Program costs are paid directly to the Third-Party Program sponsor. In addition CSU bills the student’s CSU account for a study abroad administrative charge for each term the student is abroad.
Direct Enrollment
Direct enrollment is an option for students to study at a foreign university as a visiting student. This is the most independent option for study abroad and requires students to be highly organized and ready to begin their cross-cultural experience while still in Fort Collins. Before applying to a foreign university, research the program carefully and consult with a CSU Study Abroad advisor to make sure that the university is authorized for transfer credit at CSU. Study Abroad advisors are available to assist students throughout the direct enrollment process. If applying directly, the student should be prepared for one of many experiences of 'how different things are outside of the U.S.'
Costs associated with direct enrollment are paid dierctly to the host institution and landlord or accommodation office--usually in the local currency. In addition, CSU bills the student’s CSU account for a study abroad administrative charge for each term the student is abroad.
