Diversity in Study Abroad

One of the most fulfilling aspects of study abroad is the opportunity to discover another culture and because of that process, to understand oneself better. In order to have a successful and safe experience, it is important to be aware of the cultural differences that may exist.

The following links will provide you with information and resources and different perspectives on diversity issues abroad:

When traditionally underrepresented students study abroad, they may be perceived and treated differently due to these cultural differences. For this reason, we encourage you to work with our staff to research social norms, cultural customs, and local practices. Our office provides resources and support to help students and parents identify programs that fit with their academic, career, and personal needs. In addition, Study Abroad Coordinators serve as liaisons to the Advocacy Offices at Colorado State University and are always happy to speak with students. We welcome applications from members of various groups which have traditionally been underrepresented in study abroad programs, including racial and ethnic minorities, GLBT students, students with disabilities, and older students who have followed non-traditional paths to higher education
